The auto-warranty renewal fraud was the most often reported issue in 2020 at the FCC, which maintains a separate register of consumer complaints.
Are there regulations governing spam calls?
The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 and the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act were the most recent laws passed with the intention of reducing unauthorized robocalls.
The TRACED Act doubled the penalty for spam robocallers from $1,500 to $10,000 per call. More significantly, though, it mandates that phone companies upgrade their call-authentication technology to weed out con artists before your phone even rings.
When the FCC penalized two Texas-based telemarketers $225 million in March 2021, it was one indication that the commission was attempting to control robocallers.
