Innovative Tools For Tourism: Air Quality API

If you have a tourism company then you should be using an air quality API. This way you can track your index and make a change.

Traveling, discovering new places, and enjoying impressive landscapes are things that most of us like. However, tourism has caused significant damage (directly and indirectly) to nature. Eight percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are due to tourism, according to a study by the University of Sydney. Transportation is the main generator of greenhouse gases.

Tourism & CO2

The impact that tourism generates on the environment is also paid for by the sector itself. Among the consequences of the climate crisis are the disappearance of beaches and the increase in extreme events (rain, drought, storms, heat waves, etc.) in coastal cities.

It is well known that traveling by plane is one of the main activities tourists carry out. It is also of the activities that intoxicate our planet and its air. Actually, a plane emits about 285 grams of CO2 per kilometer and per passenger. On a flight from Madrid to Barcelona, the carbon footprint of a person is 150 kilos of CO2 each way. On a Madrid-Chicago route, each passenger would be responsible for the emission of 1,020 kilograms of CO2 into the atmosphere.

For every ton of CO2 emitted, three square meters of Arctic polar cap melt. On a round-trip flight between Berlin and Tenerife, about 5 square meters of ice caps would melt per passenger. Evidently, tourism is an activity that has a lot of negative impacts on our planet. For this reason, it is key to measure the air quality and take awareness.

What Is The Air Quality Index?

The air quality index (ICA) is an indicator that allows the population to report air quality in a clear, simple, and unified way that is easily understandable by citizens. In addition, the air quality index makes it possible to compare the air quality between different areas, as it has homogeneous criteria that unify its calculation.

The index goes from 0 to 500; the higher the number, the higher the level of air pollution. If a number below 100 is recorded, air pollution is below the level known to cause adverse health effects.

When the index reaches 101 or higher, outdoor air is still safe for many, but older adults and children are at greater risk. People with heart and lung disease may also be at higher risk. A number greater than 200 is considered “very harmful”.

To be able to measure this companies should go for an Air Quality API. Let’s see which one is the best.

Carbon API: Air Quality API

Carbon API provides organizations with information about the Air quality index  Businesses. Therefore, they will understand exactly how much Carbon dioxide they are accountable for.

All of the emissions are calculated by the Carbon data API, which also represents them graphically. In this manner, the business may precisely see how as well as when they’re producing the most toxic gases. Additionally, it gives the carbon footprints in kilograms.

In consequence, the integration of an Air quality API like this Carbon tool will help reduce those damaging emissions in our world.
