Ponta Delgada Airport (PDL) is the main access point to the Azores archipelago. Dedicated to John Paul II after his 1991 visit, the airport is located on the south coast of the island of Sao Miguel, the largest of the archipelago, just over 2 km west of the island’s capital. Near the airport are the villages of Arrifes, Faja de Baixo, Nordela, Relva, Rosta do Cao, and Vila Franca. Its only terminal was built in 1995 and offers restaurants, bars, souvenir stores, VIP lounges, and several car rental agencies.
Ponta Delgada Airport operates international and intercontinental flights to and from Europe, the United States, and Canada and domestic flights to and from the Azores Islands, Madeira, and the Portuguese cities of Lisbon, Porto, and Faro. Since April 2015, Sao Miguel Airport has been a Ryanair hub. The main airlines operating at Ponta Delgada are SATA Air Acores, TAP Portugal, SATA International, Air Berlin, EasyJet, and Ryanair. The airport is famous for its art installations and murals depicting the rainforest, volcanoes, various flowers, and aviation history.
Tourism has undoubtedly changed along with the advancement of technology. The experience is taking a very important role for travelers and that is why tools that include reviews, such as Tripadvisor, Facebook, and Instagram, can cause two effects: a multiplier effect towards others, in which a first user does very well and his friends will do better; or on the contrary, an effect that can affect the customer from the bad experience of another user.
Faced with this situation, digital portals grew exponentially, and today are the main source of consultation for travelers, before, after, and during the trip. These sites function as intermediaries between customers and service providers. The reason why they can offer these services on their websites in real-time is thanks to tools such as Flight APIs.
Flight API: Essential For The Technological Adaptation Of Tourism
APIs allow your products and services to communicate with others, without the need to know how they are implemented. This simplifies application development and saves time and money. APIs give you flexibility; simplify the design, management, and use of applications; and offer opportunities for innovation, which is ideal when designing new tools and products (or managing existing ones).
These innovative tools have been on the market for some time, and although we may not notice them, they are on almost every website or application we consume. In the case of tourism portals, they are key to providing information in real-time. If you are looking to try one, we recommend a comprehensive, high-performance API that guarantees worldwide coverage called FlightLabs.
