Fintechs battling traditional banks: The Neon case

The Zurich-based fintech company neon started today with its digital account offering. The neonBanking package comes with no basic fees and includes a free account and a new free Mastercard. With the card, neon customers can withdraw money worldwide and pay for services and products anywhere, including online.

The customers of the beta phase still got a Maestro card

New customers get after AppDownload (Google Play or App Store) now a card for everything. “Our new card has a much higher acceptance worldwide and above all on the Internet than the previous Maestro card of the beta phase,” explains neon co-founder Julius Kirscheneder. The new neon card is used like a normal card everywhere, but all expenses are deducted directly from the account, so that you as a neon customer always know how much money is still available on the account.

“We focus solely on the day-to-day needs of our customers and offer the cheapest Swiss bank account,” says Jörg Sandrock, one of the other four Stort-up founders. “No branches, lean processes, cooperation with specialized partners and an app for everything, let us operate faster, leaner and closer to the customer than the local competition”, Sandrock continued.

The fastest account in Switzerland

“In less than ten minutes, interested parties open up a relationship with us. Everything completely paperless with the smartphone and a simple video identification, until 10 pm – even on Saturdays », explains neon founder Simon Youssef. Payments to Switzerland and SEPA (Euro) or standing orders are executed with just a few clicks. All bank statements, tax statements or debit notes can now be generated directly from the app, making banking in Switzerland really mobile.

About the digital account

The digital account, which is protected by all proven electronic mechanisms, is managed by Hypothekarbank Lenzburg and is therefore subject to Swiss deposit insurance. This means that up to CHF 100,000 is automatically secured for each customer. “Because there are no hooks or fees, more and more people use our digital account package,” says co-founder Michael Noorlander. If you would like to try out Switzerland’s fastest and cheapest non-binding account, you will even receive a starting balance of 30 francs.
