Coworking in Munich: Big names and local providers

The coworking market in Munich is diverse. In addition to well-known names like Wework and Mindspace, who want to address not only freelancers but also local corporates, there are also coworking spaces that specialize in their focus on a specific topic or target group. A short overview.

Week1

Werk1 describes itself as “the friendliest place in Munich”. At about 4,000 m², Werk1 mainly offers team office space for startups. But also freelancers and creative people who need a – but not a fixed – job in the Werksviertel are right: either in the “Silent Space” directly under the roof or in the “Communication Space” next to the café, in which even small groups can work together. As a coworker in Werk1 you also get access to events, network events and thus to the Werk1 community, which is certainly one of the most exciting in the startup context in Munich.

Wework

One of the “big players” on the Munich coworking market is Wework. The American coworking giant is currently represented in over 100 cities with around 600 office locations, two of them in the Bavarian capital. WeWork not only wants to convince with modern office space in a central location, but also with its international community of over 200,000 members.

Mindspace

Anyone who has always dreamed of being able to work close to the Viktualienmarkt can, for some time, turn that dream into reality. With Mindspace there is a coworking provider offering space for more than 250 members on two floors and 1,600 m² of space. The Israeli co-working provider is also represented at Stachus and Salvatorplatz with additional locations.

Design Offices

Founded in Nuremberg in 2008, Design Offices is now represented in eleven German cities, including five in Munich. A sixth offshoot is due to open in the spring of 2019 in the Werksviertel. In addition to classic office and coworking workstations, Design Offices also offers event space that can be rented at some locations.

Impact Hub

Sendling as a mecca for many Munich social entrepreneurs – sounds strange, but it is! The Munich Impact Hub attracts public-interest entrepreneurs who are looking for not only a job, but also a network of like-minded people. Sexy salad sessions or a falafel pitch for lunch time – the full event calendar proves that not only working side by side, but also the members of the Impact Hub should benefit from each other.

mates

The Munich creative scene also has a point of contact when it comes to the topic of coworking. Or actually two, because the Mates is now represented twice in the city: in Schwabing and the Isartor. Flexible work packages are available, from a spontaneous drop-in to a resident workstation. And the idea of community is also being pushed forward and is intended to help Mates members find new employees and current job offers in the Talent Pool.

Media Lab

What the Impact Hub is for Social Entrepreneurship is the Media Lab for those who pursue media projects. Located in the east of Munich, the Media Lab offers an open space for students and graduates, career starters and dropouts. The only requirement: you are working on a concrete project around digital media and have been accepted as a member of the Media Lab. But: a registration for the Open Space is possible at any time, even if there is no concrete idea.
