What are taxonomy’s main components?
The main components of taxonomy are the terms with which they form the categories and subcategories. Eventually, we can have terms of two classes: preferred and non-preferred.
Preferred terms are those that are used by the taxonomy to link similar content on a site. Non-preferred terms may be part of taxonomies for forwarding purposes.

What structure does taxonomy have?
The proper structure of taxonomy is the tree or hierarchy of classes and subclasses. This hierarchy has specifically made up of categories and subcategories. With the sibling categories in a “sibling” relationship and the categories and subcategories in a “parent-child” relationship with each other. The number of levels of taxonomy is not predetermined. That is, if a subcategory, which is a child term, can have, in turn, child terms, in the form of category > subcategory > subsubcategory, etc.
In the case of most websites, a maximum of two levels is usually what we recommend, that is, category > subcategory. However, large e-commerce sites like Amazon and the like will probably need hundreds or thousands of terms and more than two levels.
