Although several local politicians in New York had opposed Amazon opening a new headquarters in the Big Apple; the company had considered to resuming the project.
Amazon executives talked to analyze the situation and explored alternatives. The Washington post had cited the two people who had access to plans of e-commerce giant.
The company, however, had not rented or bought the space where they would have developed their project in New York, which would make it easier to suspend their plans.
“The question was whether it was worth it. If New York politicians did not want the project; especially because of the way the people of Virginia and Nashville were so welcoming,” A person familiar with the project told the Post. The plans of the company, which had requested anonymity.
Amazon had announced their intention to open two new offices in New York and Virginia. This would have used some 50,000 people and invested five billion dollars, as well as a smaller operations and logistics center in Nashville, with about 5,000 employees.
Unlike Virginia, leaders elected had approved a package of incentives to open Amazon’s headquarters. According to The Washington Post, the final approval of New York had been given until 2020.
The newspaper noted that Tennessee officials had also accepted Amazon’s plans to install an operations center in Nashville. That week it had approved $15.2 million for roads improvements, sewers and other works related to the project.
The Amazon project in New York, had faced criticism from politicians and groups which had rejected granting of subsidies to the company.
