What is an API?
An application program interface (API) is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. Basically, an API specifies how software components should interact. Additionally, APIs are used when programming graphical user interface (GUI) components. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks. A programmer then puts the blocks together.
Most APIs nowadays are Web APIs (or web services), which use HTTP to allow applications to communicate in order to exchange data or perform operations over the internet. When you use an application on your mobile phone, the application connects to the Internet and sends data to a server. The server then retrieves that data, interprets it, performs the necessary actions and sends it back to your phone. The same applies to using applications like Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. All of this happens via an API.
Why would an API be useful to a data analyst?
For our intents and purposes as analysts, APIs can be useful because they provide access to company data in raw formats easily accessible by programs. This allows us to download company data into our analytical tools for further investigation and analysis!
Furthermore, as a data analyst, you might work with several different software programs in your day-to-day role. APIs can help you integrate all those different programs into one coherent system, making your life a lot easier!
So, here are 3 APIs for you:
1- Klazify
Klazify can collect real-time business data from enterprises using just a URL, domain, or email address. This app gives specific information about the business, such as employee revenue ranges, logo APIs, location, tags, the technology used, and industry type.
Klazify is a scalable API that quickly and accurately categorizes data. It’s the most practical way to get real-time information. Furthermore, this API scans a website’s content and meta tags for the text and divides the site into up to three groups using AI techniques such as machine learning (ML).
2- Pipl
Pipl is a popular data enrichment platform that provides services such as identity verification, enquiry, and research.
Pipl can help you create complete identity profiles with personal, professional, demographic, social, relationship, photo, and contact information. It also includes a developer-friendly API, client libraries, and code samples to assist you in incorporating identifying information into your product.
3- Clearbit
Clearbit is a straightforward API that gives you rapid access to company data. The Clearbit API allows you to conduct a search that auto-completes a company’s name and displays its logo and domain information.
You may also use the API to look up a company by its domain, email address, or other criteria and receive public data like its social media handles, market sector, number of employees, required capital, and more.
